Varanasi: A kick-off meeting of Operation Dronagiri, an initiative aimed at transforming agriculture and transport through geospatial data solutions, concluded here on Saturday. The event, chaired by chairman of the Geospatial Data Promotion and Development Council (GDPDC) Srikant Sastri, brought together key stakeholders for implementation of the project.

VARANASI: Operation Dronagiri kick-off meeting in Varanasi, a landmark initiative aimed at transforming agriculture and transport through cutting-edge geospatial data solutions, achieved a significant milestone with the successful conclusion of its kick-off meeting on Saturday.

India has launched Operation DRONAGIRI, a groundbreaking pilot project under the National Geospatial Policy 2022. The initiative aims to enhance collaboration and innovation across industries by integrating geospatial data and technology. Sectors like agriculture, logistics, livelihoods, and transport are expected to benefit significantly.

Professor Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), launched Operation Dronagiri as part of India’s National Geospatial Policy 2022. The initiative aims to demonstrate how geospatial technologies can improve citizens’ quality of life and streamline business operations across key sectors in the country.

These initiatives have been launched in efforts to liberalise geospatial data, and developing geospatial infrastructure, geospatial skill and knowledge. Geospatial data is information that describes objects, events or other features with a location on or near the Earth’s surface.

On November 13, 2024, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) launched Operation Dronagiri, a pilot project designed to demonstrate the potential applications of geospatial technologies in improving the quality of life and easing business operations. The launch event was held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.
